Jyah Hoi – What happens if the pipeline is completed? “Not only are they trespassing on sacred lands that they have a history of disrespecting. From a water perspective, I think it’s an absolute failure as a country and as a culture to move toward sustainable, rekneable resources that truly support human beings.” Is this resistance movement something that can move to another fossil fuel fight? “I’d like to believe with all my heart that it is possible. I’ve only been here fore a few days, but the strength, steadiness, and peace that I have seen among the people here to stand up for something, I can put into words. We need more of this desperately. It is my deepest hope that whatever happens there, that there is a cultural momentum that is being built around standing up for what needs to be represented across the board.” What affect will Donald Trump’s election have on you? “As a mixed woman, I think the myriad of ways that will play out are potentially terrifying. AT the end of the day, having the resolve that this is my country and as an individual, having to stand up for whatever may come, being willing to put life and spirt towards fighting against it is really all we can do.”
