Joe Pulliem – What happens if the pipeline is completed? “I think we all know what happens. It will contribute more to the depletion of our resources of course, but it will contribute to the greenhouse effect, it will contribute to the downfall of our planet. That’s why I’m here, to help stop that. I’ve been here 70 days and were here in prayer, were here in ceremony. The spirits tell us that were here for the right reason, were here for the right fight and that we will come out on top. Not so much as a win, as in a win in a game, but this symbolizes ushering in a new respect for native nations, treaties, the environment, humanity in general. We represent resistance to corporate greed and colonialism.” Is this resistance movement something that can move to another fossil fuel fight? “Absolutely. This place is a conglomeration of different movements, different organizations, tribal nations, that all have their own fights . We’re all fighting our own personal black snakes, in our different regions, in our different countries, in our different reservations. We’ve all grown like a close knit family. There’s plans amongst different groups and people to go support and stand in solidarity in other stands against this kind of greed, so yeah, definitely.” What affect will Donald Trump’s election have on you? “I’m not worried about myself personally. I’m a self employed artist. I don’t rely on the gov for food stamps or anything. Personally Im stepping up my own game. Im going to work harder. I’m going to stand against corporate greed, for my people, for our treaty rights, for humanity. For our country, it’s going to mean cuts to food stamp program, medicaid, healthcare.”
